Jeremiah Birnbaum's Righteous Devils - (Set time: 11:00 PM)
Jeremiah Birnbaum's Righteous Devils
A Jersey boy with a Southern heart, Jeremiah Birnbaum is a “rootsy, soulful troubadour” (Time Out, London) whose sweet, gritty voice and skillful, effortless guitar work makes you believe every word he sings, whether about sunshine or blood.

The son of a rabbi and an architect, Jeremiah grew up in the all-American town of Maplewood, New Jersey, with his parents' LP records at hand and a great encouragement to be who he wanted to be. Thusly armed, by age 17, he was working in New York City recording studios and making his own music by any means necessary.

Since then, traveling well beyond his home turf, Jeremiah has created music and (mis)adventure along the way, gathering ample fuel for stories told with voice and expressive picking. A dedicated songsmith, Jeremiah writes new tunes weekly, a practice honed through longtime attendance at the storied Jack Hardy Songwriters' Exchange in New York.

When not alone onstage with his acoustic, Jeremiah fronts several New York rock and roll bands, and accompanies many other artists with his trademark searing Telecaster and bottleneck slide, as well as on banjo, mandolin and ukulele.

Jeremiah plays regularly at such Manhattan venues as The Living Room, Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, and Joe's Pub. He's appeared at major music festivals including CMJ and SXSW, and is often sighted onstage in Austin, Texas. Jeremiah has also garnered opening slots for many acclaimed acts, including Suzanne Vega, Heartless Bastards, Greensky Bluegrass, Will Kimbrough, Umphrey's McGee, and the late Levon Helm.

"Birnbaum's music, painted with melodic vocals, rolling beats, chiming guitar and lush piano, recalls the sound of The Band as well as more contemporary alt. country artists like the seminal Uncle Tupelo and always-stellar Lucinda Williams." Nate Schweber,

New Ponies
"basement band is a modern take on the lush, harmony-driven folk/rock/honky-tonk of the glorious Laurel Canyon days of yore." - Village Voice

On July 19th, 2011, basement band will release their latest EP entitled, quite fittingly, July. Since its inception in 2005, the Brooklyn-based band has brought its unique mix of four-part harmonies, honest lyrics, and searing guitar solos to rock clubs, co
ffeehouses, barns, and outdoor festivals across the country. The band is led by it's two songwriters and lead vocalists, Jeff Malinowski and Amal Bouhabib, who craft seemingly timeless tunes that simultaneously pay musical homage to their greatest influences while retaining a unique and comtemporary approach. The duo are supported by a rhythm section made up of drummer John Durgee and bassist James Preston, who provide a creative base upon which all four weave intricate vocal harmonies. On, July, the band is augmented by some of NYCs best musicians including guitarist Patrick Hay, guitarist/pedal-steel player Thomas Bryan Eaton, and violinist Skye Steele.

Like their debut album, Until The Evening Came, the band chose to track the album live, with all members performing their parts simultaneously, in order to properly capture the energy inherent within the songs. The resulting album ranges from barn-splintering, distorted rock 'n roll to hushed country ballads.

The band will celebrate the release with a show at one of NYC's finest listening rooms, The Living Room, on Friday, July 22nd at 9PM.
